Fifth Harmony

Fifth Harmony were finalists in the US “The X Factor” and became the most popular act that was ever created through the show. You can hear their hit single “Worth It” all around the world – from Bangkok to Moscow. Apelzin.ru called the girls in New York to talk about different subjects including the term ‘girl band’, The Pussycat Dolls, Spice Girls and much more.

Your song “Worth It” has become the most watched YouTube video for a girl band. What would you like your next record to achieve?

Wow, until you said that we were not aware that was actually true. We are really excited, thank you! I think our goal would be, honestly, just to continue to develop and better ourselves. We have so many goals within the group. We definitely have respect for the industry and to have people respect our music is great.

What is more important for you: to have a high position in the charts, have a lot of views on YouTube, or have a sold out concert?

Ohh…. Well honestly we can’t just pick one, as all of those have different aspects. They all have key elements that are very important.

My next question is about the term girl band. What does it mean for you?

When we think of a ‘girl band’ we think of individuals that have come together and made a huge sacrifice to do something that is not just about them, but that is something bigger than all of them. And also it’s about working together towards that one goal they all have. It’s about working together and being together for each other.

What is the difference between Fifth Harmony and other girl bands?

Fifth Harmony is very diverse and very unique. We all love different styles of music, so I think that’s the cool thing about it. We all bring something unique to the table, all five of us. The group wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t for me, Camila, Lauren, Ally and Dinah. I think that’s what people find magic in. That’s what they gravitate to. And I think people can see that we have an amazing relationship and are supportive of one another.

And to finish, the most complicated question! Who would you choose – The Pussycat Dolls or the Spice Girls?

Oh no!! Oh my gosh, we love The Pussycat Dolls, we just love their vibe and we love how sexy they were and the fact that they danced so much, which is my background. I’m so into dancing. When I was younger I would sit in front of the computer screen and watch their videos for hours and hours. But I also like the Spice Girls as I feel like they are the closest thing to a girl group, and personality wise I think we have the same kind of thing going. Some people say that we are like them.

Yeah I heard about that too. But still… What is your choice?

We are friends with Mel B, so let say Spice Girls.
